Society has many standards set in place that are hard to ignore, but I would like to help my clients practice their authentic self in a space where they feel supported and affirmed. We all come from different walks of life, and it feels important for me to provide space to explore any thoughts or emotions that may be attached to those lived experiences.

Further, it is my belief that we tend to mold to the expectations others may hold; however, I would like to create space for clients to feel safe to talk about the parts of themselves that do not fit into these molds. Otherwise stated, there are many roles we have in our lives and I would like for therapy to be a place to let clients slow down and acknowledge that all parts of themselves are welcome.

Finally, I believe that the therapeutic relationship is important to build and can be taken as practice for relationships built outside of therapy. Thus, my relationship with clients feels especially important for therapeutic connection and growth.

Specializes in:

Candice Lu M.A., Advanced Doctoral Student Therapist (She/Her/They/Them)

My Mission:
My goal for therapy is to create a space free of judgment, where clients feel heard and seen. Even though sharing our emotions or feelings can bring forward discomfort, I want to leave room for any emotions that clients have been holding.
My Journey:
My love for psychology started at Austin College, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2019. While taking a Psychology of Human Sexuality undergraduate course, I began to recognize how uncomfortable people can become when listening to possibilities or differences in human functioning. This is where my desire to pursue counseling psychology began. After undergraduate studies, I graduated from Texas Woman’s University with my Master's of Arts in Counseling Psychology in Summer of 2021, which helped me learn more about myself and increased my understanding of the different ways I can support and help others.
