I have enjoyed calling North Texas home for the last couple of decades. While completing a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from UNT and a Master’s of Art in Counseling Psychology from TWU, I studied feminist/multicultural theory and conducted research in acculturation, attachment, and assessment. It was during this time, I reconnected with my roots in service work and made the decision to devote myself to helping others, one-on-one. Since becoming a licensed counselor, I have pursued advanced training in treating addiction, complex trauma, acute trauma, and co-occurring mental health issues. When not in session, I prioritize the practices of mindfulness and creating balance, both of which often come up with clients. I enjoy taking hikes with my wife, daily walks with my dog Gus, meditation, and spending time in the garden, when the sun permits.
As a therapist, I believe good work is based on the strength of the therapeutic relationship. Trust, and with it safety, must be earned. Personal experience must be honored. It is my role to walk with clients on their journey, collaborating on their unique goals for health and happiness. We can come to develop an intentional practice of acceptance and support, tempered with gentle challenges that foster lasting change. I am passionate about developing this sense of connection, as a means to encourage clients in living authentically.
I understand seeking help requires hard fought courage. Often clients come to counseling feeling out of control, believing they have lost a part of themselves, or have had others mistake their vulnerability as an invitation for abuse. I value our differences and intentionally enter session with a sense of humility. Consistently meeting clients with genuineness, care, empathy, and acceptance for their personal wisdom are core values in my practice. Still in the best of circumstances, healing and growth can feel uncomfortable or not seem quite right. It is my hope that we can move through this discomfort together, nurturing the powerful changes you are worthy of.
The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.
