Our therapists are trained in a variety of modalities to provide support and guidance for your unique experiences, challenges, and goals. We provide a safe, unbiased and judgment-free space as you navigate this journey of growth and healing.

THERAPY TECHNIQUES WE USE

INDIVIDUAL THERAPY

Individual therapy empowers you to explore your challenges, experiences, expectations and goals in a safe space. Your therapy is about you, and it’s a place where you can feel secure sharing your reactions to your lived experiences. Individual therapy gives you the opportunity to explore and process the past while observing the impact it has on your current and future self.

INTIMATE PARTNER COUNSELING

We often find healing and support within our romantic partnerships, but these relationships can also sometimes bring conflict, disconnection, and difficulty. Partners might consider counseling after major transitions or changes within the relationship, when they find themselves stuck in a pattern they can’t get out of, or even when they’re wondering if the relationship should continue. We honor partnerships at all stages and commit to working toward the healthiest outcome for each individual, as well as the relationship as a whole.

We work with intimate partners from an Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) approach, which views relationship issues as the result of disconnection between people who are doing the best they can in a tough situation. We view the relationship itself as the client, so there’s no one partner to “blame” or one “bad” partner who needs to change. Instead, we get to know you as partners and help you discover new ways of relating to one another that help you feel connected and valued.

We welcome and affirm all intimate partner relationships, regardless of identity or number of partners.

TRAUMA-INFORMED CARE

Trauma is truth to the nervous system. We believe most people have experienced something they consider to be traumatic, and unfortunately, we live in a culture that rejects pain rather than validates it. When someone has been traumatized, they’ve likely felt out of control — so we focus on giving our clients autonomy and choice.

Healing from trauma not only takes time, but also intention. With our therapeutic approach, we decide on the best treatment plan for you together and you guide your own healing process. The techniques we use to treat trauma include talk therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness, expressive arts, creating a family timeline or genogram, exposure work, somatic experiencing, internal family systems, and self-compassion based interventions.

We specialize in working with clients affected by Complex Trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). We have extensive experience treating family of origin and attachment-based trauma, sexual assault-related trauma, survivors of intimate partner violence, trauma based on discrimination or oppression of one’s identity, and trauma related to relational instability.

GENDER AFFIRMING CARE

We provide a safe space for clients who are exploring, affirming, or interested in gaining a deeper understanding of their own gender identity and experience. Our therapeutic approach takes into account that trans and non-binary individuals have grown up in a transphobic world and as such have often experienced repeated discrimination, hostility, and trauma that can have lasting psychological effects.

A number of our therapists have specialized experience with, and passion for, providing affirming care when working with issues related to gender identity. This includes work with individuals who are pursuing gender affirming treatment such as hormones and/or surgery.

Many current legal and health standards require a letter of support from a mental health professional and we strive to serve as an advocate for any clients pursuing these vital and affirming treatments for themselves. Our gender affirming therapy services align with current WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) standards of care.

We believe in a holistic treatment approach and are able to help connect clients with other affirming services within the DFW area (e.g. health care providers, support with changing name and gender marker), if desired.

MINDFULNESS-BASED INTERVENTIONS

Mindfulness, simply put, is about being fully aware in the present moment. Developing a more mindful connection to the here-and-now can be invaluable, especially in our busy Western culture. Mindfulness can be a useful practice for addressing worry about the future, fear of uncertainty, or judgment about one’s own emotional reactions.

Mindfulness is also a powerful way to help us attune to and connect with our bodies in the present moment. Within the therapeutic space, mindfulness-based interventions could range from brief breathing exercises or check-ins with the body to extended meditations intended to foster new ways of relating to one’s thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations.

Mindfulness can also be integrated into therapy to address physical manifestations of stress or panic, develop relaxation strategies, increase self-compassion and acceptance, and deepen self-awareness and reflection. Practiced within the therapeutic environment, these exercises can become valuable skills to use in daily life.

SOMATIC EXPERIENCING (SE)

During a traumatic event, the mind, body, and nervous system may shift into a state of dissociation or depersonalization in order to survive. The ability to be out of connection with your body, during trauma is crucial for your survival, but it can have a major impact on your healing and daily living. One of the goals of Somatic Experiencing is to help clients come back into contact with themselves and to re-integrate with their bodies following traumatic events. While working in the here-and-now, we’re able to shift the focus from the past to the present and build capacity for distress tolerance so that healing can occur. These techniques allow a client to build internal safety and security so they feel better prepared to handle everyday life.
